STEM Event

Aerodynamic Decelerators, Space Exploration, & Engineering Process

April 24, 2026

With the recent Artemis II moon mission, students worked in small groups to design, build, & test a space lander within cost and schedule constraints, with the goal of landing their "astronaut" safely.  Groups were provided with a marshmallow "astronaut", capsule with weighted payload & a platform, with the specification that nothing was to be built on top of the capsule and platform. Groups were given a budget to buy supplies from the "STEM store" and a time limit to complete their development process before launching from the "test range". As in real life, the cost to test their lander on the “test range” needed to be included in their budget.  Saint Ann School's STEM events are held monthly and organized by a group of dedicated parent volunteers.
